2024 Primary Election:

Frequently Asked Questions

What are the Democratic Party's voting recommendations?

You can view all our endorsements for the primary election at sddems.link/vote. We have no recommendation on the races for Democratic Central Committee, since the Central Committee is the group that votes on endorsements. The only publicly available information on those candidates is the short description listed on your ballot.  In the two judicial races that are not contested, Offices 19 and 20, the candidates did not seek or receive our endorsement.

How can I turn in my ballot?

Ballots have been mailed to all voters. You can mail your ballot back when you've filled it out, making sure to sign and date the outer envelope. No stamp is needed, but the mail must be postmarked no later than March 5 to be counted. Or if you prefer, you can return your ballot to one of many dropoff locations around the county, which (locations and hours here). Another alternative is to go to an official Vote Center, where you can also replace a lost or damaged ballot if necessary (locations and hours here)

Can I still register to vote?

The deadline for online registration has passed, but anyone eligible to vote can still register (or reregister) in person at a Vote Center. You can receive and vote your ballot then and there, and it will be counted once your registration has been confirmed and processed.

Can I return another voter's ballot for them?

Yes! Anyone can turn in any voter's ballot for (same methods listed above) as long as you're not paid to do so. You just have to print and sign your name on the envelope where indicated.

I'm not registered with a political party, but how can I vote Democratic for president?

Nonpartisan (NPP) voters are automatically sent nonpartisan ballots unless they request a partisan "crossover" ballot. Doing so will not change your party registration. To do so at this point, please go to a Vote Center in person, and bring your original ballot if possible.

How can I volunteer in this election?

Volunteer opportunities through the San Diego County Democratic Party are listed at sddems.link/action. We'd love to have your help informing and turning out voters right through election day!
