Hundreds of local seats will be on the ballot this November throughout San Diego County. Those races for city councils, school boards, planning boards, and other public offices are great opportunities for members of the public to serve their communities at a time when we need strong local leadership more than ever.
Republicans historically won many of these seats simply because no Democrat ran against them -- but that trend has turned around. Two years ago, 64 of our endorsed candidates won by default because their races were uncontested.
We're still looking for Democratic candidates for dozens of local seats. The formal process to "pull papers" to run for office is from July 13 to August 7. Whether you're ready to run yourself or just want to learn more about your options, this page is the place to start.
First, click here to confirm your voter registration and find out which districts you're in. Then click the button below for your region to see which open seats you're eligible to run for, and fill out the form there to contact us. An SD Dems staff member will reach out to answer your questions and help you decide next steps.
Please note that we are only recruiting in races where we lack enough current Democratic candidates for those positions.
