Help Lead the Way in South County

Picture

Have you ever thought about running for local office? Now's the time to prepare. We need Democrats representing the values and priorities of real people in our community -- on city councils, school boards, and other local agencies where any registered voter can campaign to be elected and volunteer to serve.

In South County San Diego, Democrats are making steady progress. We're leading in voter registration in cities including Chula Vista, Imperial Beach, and National City. Even in more Republican areas, we've seen that voters will support local Democratic candidates who stand for working people, quality of life, fairness, environmental stewardship, and other values that we share.

We are recruiting candidates for dozens of offices in South County where no Democrat has declared candidacy. We know from experience that in some of these races, there won't be more candidates than there are open seats, so simply qualifying for the ballot is enough to get elected. But we can't win unless people like you step up to run.

The candidate filing period for the November 2022 election will be open this July. While the filing process is fairly easy, time is of the essence. The San Diego County Democratic Party is here to answer questions, help candidates through the steps, and then provide tools and services to elect the Democrats we endorse.

If you'd consider becoming a candidate, click here to see which districts you're eligible to run in. Then review the list of South County offices below where we still need one or more candidates. To proceed, click the button below, give us your contact information on the following page, and a Democratic Party representative will contact you to answer questions and guide you through the steps if you decide to run.

It's crucial we continue to build on our victories in recent elections, and now is the time to make sure we have good Democrats like you stepping up to lead
-- including in these very local offices that have a direct impact on day-to-day life.  The change we need can begin with you.
