TAKE ACTION: Resources for

Defending Our Democracy

Our rights, freedoms, and communities are under attack -- and we must stand together and fight back. The Trump Administration is assaulting our democracy and our people on a daily basis — dismantling Constitutional protections, appointing unqualified extremists to powerful positions, and escalating the mass deportation of immigrants who are part of the fabric of our country. People are scared. People are angry. And people are looking for ways to resist and persist.

On this page SD Dems have compiled some resources to help you take action. (Please email [email protected] with any additions or corrections.) Whether you want to volunteer, organize, be more visible, or just stay informed, you are not alone. Here you’ll find:

  • Groups on the frontlines — help them directly support individuals and communities under attack.
  • Ways to protest — increase visibility and apply sustained and strategic pressure where it's needed.
  • Ways to organize — join a Democratic Club or help a local candidate to take action close to home.
  • Direct action tools — contact your elected officials to demand they stand up to Republican extremism.

We know this moment is difficult. But history has shown that when we join together and stay together, we win. The fight for democracy, equality, and justice is not over — it's just beginning. So let’s get to work.

Calendar of Upcoming Actions and Protests

Democratic-aligned protests, rallies, and similar events in San Diego County are organized on an ongoing basis -- initiated sometimes by a national effort, but often by grassroots groups taking action in their own communities. Several local groups maintain calendars tracking the events they're aware of, including Swing Left, Indivisible, The Jumping Off Place, Change Begins With Me, and Axios San Diego. You can check those links regularly for updates.

Support Paloma Aguirre for County Supervisor

Our County Board of Supervisors is now deadlocked between Republicans and Democrats. Whoever wins this year's special election for an open supervisorial seat will determine whether the nation's fifth-largest county will tilt toward MAGA or push back, on policies ranging from civil rights and immigration to climate action and healthcare. The San Diego County Democratic Party has endorsed Imperial Beach Mayor Paloma Aguirre in the April 8 election for District 1. You sign up to volunteer at sddems.link/action, or click here for details about the special election.
